I got into martial arts in my late teens whilst studying music. My drum teacher (who was also a Kickboxing Black Belt), suggested I try kickboxing to help improve my stamina and music skills. Martial Arts are excellent for instilling a sense of discipline and structure which have taught me the skill of 'how to learn' - whatever the subject might be.

That was over 30 years ago and since then I’ve made Kickboxing my life. Throughout the years, competition medals and trophies have been great, but my proudest moment was gaining my Mugendo Black Belt from Japanese Master Meiji Suzuki in 2001. It took ten years of serious training and hard work during which I learned so much.

In 2006 William and I founded The Martial Arts Place together. We’ve known each other since we were 11 - we’re best friends and business partners too. Our goal was to create a Dojo with a friendly atmosphere and the best instruction possible, and we believe we have achieved that here at The Martial Arts Place.

Wise words: There is no substitute for hard work.
