It’s been a while but we’re back! This week we feature Sensei Andy
(who demanded extra time to finish his answers!)

.
1) How long have you been involved in Martial Arts?
I did about a year of Judo when I was much younger, but its really
been the last three years at the Martial Arts Place.
.
.
.
.
.
2) When not at TMAP where can you be found?
During weekdays you will find me working as a Digital
Project Manager for a central London software house.
My evening and weekends are taken up with friends and family.
.
.
.
.
3) What are your peeves?
People who don’t count loud enough….Although I do like dishing
out press ups!!!!!
.
.
.
.
4) Best advice for a beginner?
Relax, smile, work hard and have fun.
.
.
.
.
.
5) Favourite Film?
.
This is too hard for me to say, but my favourite martial arts movie would be a toss up between
Ong bak, bloodsport and Enter the Dragon. Although one of my favourite fight scenes is in ong bak 2
when he comes back to the rebel village and fights two opponents at one time. Amazing,
seriously check it out if you have not seen it.
.
6) Do you have a catchphrase that you use to motivate your students?
Pain is weakness leaving your body.
.
.
.
.
.
7) What do you like to snack on?
Flapjacks are my favourite pre-work out snack, but I have also started to get into
Cinnamon and Raisin bagels with Peanut butter.
.
8 ) Secret Skills?
Sorry I don’t really have secret skills, I was an actor for a
little bit and I can scuba dive…but not much of that is secret.
.
.
.
.
.
9) Who is your idol?
This is nice and easy, Muhammed Ali for definite. Not just because he was one of the
greatest heavyweight boxers of all time, but because he stood by what he believed, no
matter the cost and how unpopular it made him.
.
10) Most painful injury?
I’ve been fairly lucky to not have had any serious strains, pulls or breaks. However, and
I know that he will take great pleasure in knowing this, the dead arm and subsequent 6 x 6
inch bruise from a Sensei Phil spinning side kick hurt so much I thought my arms was going
to fall off. (I have a picture if you want it).
.
11) If you had a superpower what would it be?
To control time….by far the best superpower…think of all
the things you could do.
.
.
.
.
.
12) What song will guarantee you get on the dance floor?
.
YMCA!!!!…Only joking… I’m a bit of a wall flower when it comes to dancing…But i’m a
huge Hip Hop fan, and back in my raving days you would often find my dancing to a bit of
Drum and Bass till 7am in the morning.
.
13) What’s the hardest thing you’ve overcome?
Wow, that’s personal…But I think in martial arts terms, when sparring it took me a long time
to reprogramme my brain not to look down when punches start coming towards you. Instinct
tells you to cover up, but to effectively spar you need to look at what is coming so that you can
either, get out of the way, counter attack or defend.
.
14) Describe yourself in three words
.
.
.
.
.
If you have a burning question for one of our Sensei or Senpai then leave a comment and we’ll see if we can get it answered! Coming up next time is Sensei Adrian.
