Our latest Juniors Competition took place in November and it was a great success with a large turnout of Juniors (both boys and girls) aged 8 to 14 taking part. Massive congratulations to all of them as they performed brilliantly on the day, rising to the challenge of competition whilst demonstrating their very best techniques. The TMAP Sensei’s were all very impressed!
Also a huge thank you to everyone who helped officiate, keep score/time on a long but very worthwhile day. You did a great job guys and we appreciate your help.
Below we have photographs of our competitors on the day with their medals and trophies. If you or your child are keen to take part in our next competition then keep checking our blog for details of our next competition coming in 2012!
This Sensei On The Spot features our very own Sensei Heather… keen on dancing and not keen on slow walkers, what else does the loquacious Sensei Heather want to share with us?
1) How long have you been involved in martial arts?
About 7 or 8 years
.
.
2) When not at TMAP where can you be found?
I work as a lawyer in government.
.
.
3) What are your pet peeves (what do you dislike?)
Negativity in people – I find it draining. You get what you put in.
Also really slow walkers….especially trying to get out of tube stations.
I think that’s a London thing!
.
.
.
.
.
4) Best advice for a beginner at TMAP?
Get into a fitness routine and keep it up. Even when you’ve had a really rough day and you’re tired, or
hung-over and its cold outside – go for a workout. You will feel so much better for it physically and mentally.
.
5) What’s your favourite film?
.
Depends on my mood…although I’ve always loved the Shawshank Redemption.
.
6) Do you have a catchphrase that you like to use to motivate your students?
Nothing particularly motivating although apparently I sing at people quite
a lot….but I’m seeing a Doctor about that!
.
.
.
.
.
7) What do you like to snack on?
Very dark chocolate (Green and Blacks if you’re planning my Christmas present)!
.
.
.
.
8 ) Do you have any secret or not so secret skills? (e.g.can you do backflips or play a mean game of chess)
I have jedi powers.
.
.
.
.
.
.
9) Who is your idol?
Might sound a bit sad but my parents are definitely up there. They’ve done some pretty
amazing things in life and I hope I’m half as inspiring as them if I ever have kids.
.
10) Most painful injury? (not necessarily martial arts related)
Oh, well that’s easy. That would be when a certain Sensei (who I won’t name)
swept me when I was but a young and gullible yellow belt and I ended up in A&E with a broken wrist….I’m still here though so it couldn’t have been that bad. Although I’m still waiting for flowers……..
.
.
11) If you could have a superpower what would it be?
I already have jedi powers – see qu 8!
.
.
12) What song guarantees you’ll get on the dancefloor?
Just try and find a song I won’t dance to!
.
.
.
.
.
.
14) What’s the hardest thing you’ve overcome?
Probably getting fit and into shape. I was rubbish at sport as a kid and very overweight
until my early 20s. Getting into sport and fitness and learning not to feel self conscious
was a really tough thing to get over.
