5 top tips for our Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu class – Tues & Thurs 12pm

Saturday, February 26th, 2011

.

We know how much you love everything kick boxing here at The Martial Arts Place, but variety is the spice of life and we also have Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu classes running during the day here at our Swiss Cottage Dojo. We thought we’d add some spice to your day by offering you some top BJJ training tips from class instructor Kalil Henrichs of the highly respected BJJ School.

.

.

5 Tips for Brazilian Jiu-jitsu Beginners

1) Set your goals before the class starts.
Reflect and focus on what you want to develop during that session. Do you want to work on your defence and escapes? Maybe try a different sweep?  You must know what you are looking for in order to start chasing it.

2) Warm up.
The use of light exercises in the beginning of the class will allow your body to prepare for a more intense level of activity and avoid future injuries.

3) Stretch.
It is vital to stretch after any sports activity. It will allow your body to become more flexible, avoid injuries and it will give your body signals that the level of activity is changing and that now it’s time to slow down.

4) Tap, Tap, Tap.
Leave your ego outside the Dojo and tap as soon as you feel that you can’t escape from a position. Avoid unnecessary major injuries.

5) Do your best and have fun.
Go to your training session with a positive mind set. Focus at giving your best  at all times. It is your time, leave all your problem outside the Dojo.
Go to your academy, take your shoes off together with your worries and ego, step into the Dojo and have fun!!!

If you’d like to try a class here at The Martial Arts Place then call Kalil on 07872 607013 to book a free trial class.

Kung Hei Fat Choi – Happy Chinese New Year!

Thursday, February 3rd, 2011

3rd February 2011 is the Chinese year of the Rabbit. Previous years of the Rabbit have fallen in 1915, 1927, 1939, 1951, 1963, 1975, 1987 and 1999.  If you were born in the year of the Rabbit or are expecting a baby this year then personality traits of those born under the Rabbit include being articulate, virtuous and ambitious, reserved and having excellent taste.  Rabbit people are admired and often financially luckily, rabbit people seldom lose their tempers!

Are you a rabbit, rooster, tiger, rat, ox or snake?  Whatever your sign we wish you Kung Hei Fat Choi!!
